Hausach in the Kinzigtal – a state-recognized recreation area

At the heart of the Black Forest, right in the Kinzig valley at the confluence of the Gutach and Kinzig rivers: Hausach's central location is unmistakable. Centuries ago, these geographic factors were what prompted the construction of Husen Castle and the establishment of a customs office here. Today, they contribute significantly to Hausach's importance as an industrial and commercial location. The castle ruins are the town's landmark.

Hausach lies on the world-famous Black Forest Railway, whose construction in 1866 sparked the industrial ascendency here. The tracks are still considered a masterpiece of engineering.

And there’s 120 km of networked hiking trails. While the Hausacher Bergsteig (mountain climb) – one of the Black Forest’s ‘aficionado’ trails – is suited for experienced hikers, the Abenteuerweg (adventure trail) is designed to encourage families with children to spend time in the great outdoors. Hausach is the halfway station of the famous Westweg (western trail) system, which stretches 280 km from Pforzheim to Basel.

During the Hausacher LeseLenz, the town hosts an annual literature festival that’s unparalleled far and wide: it established Hausach's reputation as the “literature capital of the rural area”. www.leselenz.com

Since spring 2020 Hausach boasts yet another attraction: the Kinzigtalbad Ortenau. It’s an all-season bath and spa, with outdoor and indoor swimming pools, a sauna and very high-quality ambience. For the people and residents of Ortenau, as well as for the tourism that’s extremely important for the region, the new bath is a valuable and indispensable leisure facility.

Hausach is also an educational center, offering all the important school and training facilities: a collective grammar school, a general high school, a business high school and commercial schools, an adult education center, a music school and a joint vocational college for the social professions. A school cafeteria serves all three general education schools.

Three daycare centers, some as all-day facilities that provide meals and integrative care, make Hausach an attractive place to live, especially for families.

And Hausach’s 60 or more social clubs and societies provide the opportunity and structure to take action and get involved in town life.

In the immediate vicinity of Hausach, you the have the idyllic landscapes of the central Black Forest with its typical, picturesque farmsteads. The famous Black Forest open-air museum, Vogtsbauernhöfe (the reeve’s farms), is just a 5-minute drive from the city center. And in just 1.5 hours, you can be in the French city of Strasbourg or in Switzerland!
